A pretty walk along the Swale, via Marske and Applegarth Scar to Richmond. Only 10.6 miles today but a fair number of ups and downs to keep us happy. Lovely ‘elevenses’ break at Elaine’s teas at Nun Cote Nook Farm much recommended. Here we met many of our co- walkers whom we have overtaken and been overtaken by along the route. The Australians abound as Julia Bradbury’s programme about the walk has been aired there recently. Apparently last year it was shown in the States and there were more Americans than previously. Arriving in Richmond was a terrible reminder of traffic noise and pollution in the outside world after days of quietness. Some of us escaped to Richmond Castle.
